The first 10 minutes were played out as a wrestling match with neither team able to gain the upper hand in the forward battle. The deadlock was broken with a smart lineout move down the left hand touchline which saw Higgs barge through the defence to score in the corner. An excellent conversion attempt was just short from flyhalf Lockwood. The half ended with Stewarts camped on the South line and only stout defence keeping the scoreline intact.
With the second half came the advantage of a strong breeze and a more urgent approach from the South lads. The second South score came as the lads switched the point of attack and moved the ball well through the hands. An excellent running line from Allen proved unstopable as he touched down under the posts. The conversion was made by Lockwood.
Reward came for continued pressure in the opposition 22 when an attempted clearance by Stewarts was pounced on by prop Harrison, who drove through 3 defenders to score a powerful try to the right of the posts.
The final score was taken by Stewarts as prop Douglas lay incapacitated with a 'gentlemens' injury! The ball was moved well to the right where the attacking player was denied a score in the corner by what was deemed a dangerous tackle. A converted penalty try was the outcome.
As always, this was an excellent game of rugby played with a great spirit. Congratulations to both sides.
