With work to do, a five minute period saw both teams struggle with the conditions. The deadlock was broken by scrumhalf Bailey darting over in the right corner. Openside Allen then got on the sheet with a searing break down the left wing, with a touchdown under the posts. Lockwood happy to accept this considerate placement, converted. Groom, now playing at 6 rampaged through the Ashby line to take his second score (and we understand a handsom bonus from Mrs Potts!) Not to be outdone, Allen then scored his second of the game with another fine individual break. With just 5 minutes left to play, flyhalf Lockwood stepped and span through half a dozen would-be tackles to touchdown (contender for Strictly come dancing i think!!)
The scoring was completed fittingly by Jones under the Ashby posts. Finishing the game at number 8, this was a fine debut by the new backrow forward. With the extra's added the scoreline ended Ashby 0, South Leicester 53. Well done South and well played Ashby, who never stopped working.
