South 12 - Syston 10 brilliant victory!

South welcomed Syston amid atrocious wet and windy weather which quickly turned the pitch into a mud bath. We did not let past results get to us and it was all South in the first half of the match.Sustained pressure from South prevented Syston from playing and their frustration gave us a kickable penalty but unfortunately we didn't convert. But a few minutes later continued pressure was rewarded with a well deserved try from Ciaran Holland.Minutes later new player Kye Dick broke through their defence to score his first try for South and Kieran Vann converted for two points.
Half Time: South 12 Syston 0 Rocky said we were superb - great rucks,mauls and passing down the line, exactly what he wanted to see despite the pouring rain.
Syston made changes at half time and their fresh legs saw them score two quick tries early in the second but they crucially missed both conversions which kept South tantalisingly ahead. This resulted in an exciting second half with end to end play.South lost Luke Heggs then Yaree Fantini to injury and found themselves down to 14 men as we had no spare players. This made today's performance even more impressive.Despite desperate pressure from Syston in the last quarter South held on with great defence which increasingly frustrated Syston causing them to make mistakes and they could not capitalise on having more players on the pitch.

A great performance by all players and a well deserved win. Defence throughout the match was superb,ball handling was hard for both teams in the muddy conditions as the cold took its toll but 100% effort from all players saw us through. It was a gutsy performance ,great entertainment for the parents who had braved the weather to support the lads.Special mention to the new lads Ollie Aley,Kye Dick and Ollie Naini - a brilliant start for all 3.Also thanks to Derek for stepping in to ref when the Society let us down.
