04/02/18 - Vs Ashby (H)

After a rest from games for two weeks, an overcast morning kept us at home to play Ashby again. Kian was out ill which meant Curtis picked up the mantle as Captain and Josh stepped in as hooker.

Ashby kicked off and the ball immediately went behind our line. Cole picked up the ball and made it to the halfway line but was tackled by an Ashby player. After a slight maul, Ashby came away with the ball and ran it in for their first try. The players lined up again, and the ball was played out of touch. Ashby’s scrum won the ball, passed it down the line and ran in for their second try. With sloppy tackles Ashby scored another 2 tries before the half time whistle. Score = Ashby 4 : South 0.

After the half time team talk, South kicked off, Ashby caught the ball on the first bounce and passing down the line ran in for their fifth try. Unfortunately, things didn’t improve from there. The forwards did step up their game and the scrums were won but after that, the ball was turned over in every ruck and maul. Every tackle by South was just a half-hearted shirt grab and Ashby scored another 3 tries before the end of the match. The one saving grace South had was on the last play when Tai managed to break free and with 3 Ashby players on his tail he made it over the goal line for South’s only try.

Disappointingly, due to the ineffectiveness of the South tackles, no award was given for Tackle of the Match, but two players did shine in their efforts so two Man of the Match awards were presented.
