12-11-17 - Vs Coalville (H)

Remembrance Sunday kept us at home against Coalville. Playing on pitch 1 for the first time the lads looked sharp during the warm up and after a good performance at the County Cup last week, the supporters were expecting a good result. A few players from the Under 14s were present to boost the team as Riley is still out and Cole was absent due to the Remembrance Day parade. Also, a big welcome to our newest member Gabriel Meddoms, who came for his first training session on Wednesday and has immediately been thrown into the second row. A couple of changes to last week’s positions mean that Ethen is now on the left wing and Archie P becomes the full back.

Within the first minute Coalville had broken through and scored, the spectators groaned. The lads on the other hand, turned, faced, dug their heels in and went for it. Within the next minute the ball went down the line to Corban who took Coalville completely by surprise, broke away and ran in for South’s first try. Two minutes later Coalville was tackled, the ball was fumbled, picked up by Corban and once again he shot off for his second try, putting South 2 – 1 up. The rest of the half showed the boys legs getting tired as Coalville stacked up another 3 tries making the half time score 5 – 3 to the visitors.

A team talk, drink and a short rest was enough to lift South’s spirit and even though Coalville started the second period with a try in the first minute, the South boy’s chins didn’t drop. The scrums were fought for with Kian hooking almost all the balls. Passes were completed down the line and back to Joe who scored his second try of the match. Good passing and some lightning speed from Under 14’s Sonny brought home another 2 tries for South putting us level with Coalville. With the score tied both teams were giving their all, rucking and mauling was passionate with the forwards diving in at every available opportunity. In the dying minutes a good run by Joe , supported by Jacob and Archie P led to Curtis scoring his first of the game. An excellent tackle from Kyle prevented Coalville pulling even. From this Kian hooked superbly again and Tai ran the last ball in to put South 2 points clear. Final score South Leicester 8, Coalville 6.
A brilliant result for our lads against a determined opposition.
