Syston 7s

Syston 7s tournament report.
Our first sevens tournament as an ever improving squad was going to prove a real challenge especially when the pool groups were revealed. Clearly placed in the strongest pool we were faced with Kettering, Market Harborough and Oadby Wyggs.
The first match was against a big strong Kettering side who clearly had aspirations of winning the cup. They started strongly but we rallied and after some brave tackles from Jack, Cam, George and Jonathan, an error was forced and Sam the legs ! Was on the loose ball and blistered in for a great score. We slotted the drop kick to narrow the score but despite our efforts just lost out 19-7. A valiant effort though for our first game.
The second match was a torrid 14 minutes for us against a fired up Market Harborough seven. We tackled hard and fought but the handling and pace out stripped and we ended up on the wrong end of 30 plus points. Sam snatched another great score though from an excellent run to get some points on the board.
It was a similar picture against our local rival Oadby Wyggs who ran in a number of tries winning the last match of the pool.
This left us with a plate semi final against Market Bosworth who were a side we had not played this season. Bosworth had the better start scoring four tries. However South turned the tide and nearly snatched a win with some really brave tackles and attacks making bosworth work for everything ! Jonathan snuck in for one in the corner, Sam broke through the middle with nothing going to stop him ! And Cam the sprinting prop made a powerful lung bursting run from his own 22" down towards the oppositions 22" before he was tackled. Jack was in support scooped up the ball and ran in for score. Unfortunately for South that was time and we had just lost narrowly.
Despite the scores lads you all did amazingly well on a very hard big pitch against the best teams in the county. You can hold your heads up high and continue your impressive development.
Sevens is a tough fast game and this is all good experience for the future where I'm sure medals and glory awaits !!
