Nuneaton v South Leicester u13’s match report

Excellent Nuneaton v South Leicester u13’s match report from David Bullivant this week. Well done lads for what sounds like a really exciting game...

All change for the South Leicester team this week with George, Max, Reece and Myles absent and Oli and Reece starting for the first time along with a ‘guest’ appearance from Thomas at Full Back.

South Kicked off and after an initial handling error from Nuneaton began to attack. It took 2 minutes to take the lead when after a ruck, Jonathon picked up ,sniped down the touchline to score unopposed in the corner. Conversion missed.

Almost immediately South doubled the score when Sam received the ball inside his own half and ran outside the Nuns defence to score in the corner. Again a difficult conversion missed.

Nuneaton scored their first try on 6 minutes when one player broke away from the fringes to score under the posts. Conversion scored.

Nuneaton 7 South Leicester 10

The next try came for South on 12 minutes when Jack showing great strength and speed scored from 60m out having had at least 6 Nuneaton tacklers fall off him during the run. He finished it under the posts and alex slotted the conversion.

Nuneaton’s power in the scrum was causing a problem getting ball and they scored the final try of the half after being held up over the line. Conversion was missed. Half time the score Nuneaton 12 South Leicester 17.

South got off to a flyer in the second half as the kick-off was taken passed on to Jack who burst through the Nuneaton defence to score his second try under the posts. Conversion added.

Nuneaton replied almost immediately but missed the conversion.

South were struggling to get any momentum and Nuneaton looked to draw level which they did with atry 6 minutes into the second half. Amazingly the conversion was missed from bang infront to leave South with a narrow lead.

Some great tackles were put in but the Nuneaton scrum was dominant. The game was close and started to get a bit feisty but with 8 minutes left Nuneaton took the lead for the first time with a try in the corner. The conversion was missed which meant a try would be enough to take the lead.

Unfortunately  the try never came and the game finished with a narrow loss.

Overall a good performance against a strong team with positional and personnel changes. Boys do not get down by the loss, it was a close game against a team with 7 subs to our bare 15 and those fresher legs towards the end were the difference.
