South Leicester 50 Ashby 7

A sunny but cold morning saw South welcome the visit by Ashby, special praise to T.Bonsor & M.Brooks who played for the visitor's in the first half to help with numbers. South started with G.Lewis looking lively taking high ball and in the thick of the action. Good interplay between forwards and backs meant it was not long before South opened the scoring with M.Cox supporting well and getting on the end of a great run by D.Pegg to score the first try 5-0 to South. Continued good play with forwards winning ball offloading and enabling backs to have quick ball meant a great run by H.Jackson almost the whole length of the pitch was finished off with M.Cox again popping up in the right place and supporting well to score his second try converted by K.Hughes 12-0 to south. South then started to pile on the pressure with D.Pegg scoring a solo try converted by K.Hughes to make the score 19-0 to south.

Great build up play again meant K.Hughes then became the provider running through to offload to D.Pegg to score with K.Hughes converting to make the score 26-0 to South. To their credit Ashby then came back to score a try by B.Wise and converted by M.Whittle to make the score 26-7 to South. Immediately from the re-start South attacked and good play again by the whole team finished with K.Hughes scoring and converting his own try to make the score 33-7 at Halftime.

South made changes for the second half and special praise goes to O.Martin & G.Lewis for playing for the visitor's in the second half again to help with numbers. As soon as the second half started South attacked again with J.Beech securing loose ball and setting up the side for a period of pressure involving scrum’s and lineout’s with J.Bryan scoring a well deserved try as moments before he had crossed the line but denied for not grounding making the score 38-7 to South. Again great interplay by the backs saw the ball pass through many hands with D.Pegg then finishing off for a great team try converted by F.Essam making the score 45-7 to south.

For the final period of the game South held the ball attacking at all times gaining advantage all the time, and pressure paid off with A.Djemil weaving through the Ashby defence to score a great try, this made the final score 50-7 to South.

Ashby were well beaten by a stronger South side with the team playing well together as both forwards and backs scored in the game. Tackling of legs still needs improvement but overall a very good win, keep it up lads!!

Man of the match: K.Hughes.
