Same old slow start saw the South U13's backs to the wall again this week, but they responded well and a battling second half saw them narrowly lose against a free passing Melbourne outfit.
Melbourne raced into a 17 point lead early on with three tries with no response leaving South climbing the proverbial mountain. The rest of the half saw two tries form South with Jack showing his pace with a single response from Melbourne as South began to claw there way back into the game.
The second half saw South continue to improve and a couple of tactical changes paid off. Jack reverting to full back took a high ball and scored a lovely try with an incisive run, before Ed showed his pace on the right wing and went over again.
Melbourne responded with the best team try of the game passing the ball along the whole back line to go over in the corner.
South were not done yet however and a great try after a mazy run down the left from Mica showing what great potential he has.
Overall a much improved performance in the second half and more commitment from the whole team in the tackle. Lets build on this guys, you have talent, put that alongside commitment and passion for the shirt and we will have a good second half of the season.
Thanks to our visitors for playing the game with a great spirit and the referee for a match well officiated, unlike the one later on at the other Welford Road.
