Game 1
A barmy Sunday morning saw South take on LFE.
With a big physical forward five for LFE it was evident South were going to have to make the most of any ball in hand today to make an impact. And so it proved with LFE dominant at the scum and lineout.
Undeterred a more confident South adopted a “thou shalt not pass” attitude, tackling like demons. They restricted LFE to minimal try scoring opportunities and constantly forced errors in the breakdown. When South did get their hands on the ball some strong running and passing was nearly rewarded when Alex shot down the wing and from the resulting layoff Reece was forced into touch from a yard out. LFE managed to clear and after more pressure eventually went over for the only score of the half. Half time South 0 LFE 5
The second half saw South winning more ball as a result of more penalties and Will Basey-Broom scored a fine try picking a gap through the LFE defence. Tails up and the momentum was with us for the remainder of the half and the match was there to be won. Quick hands and good decisive runs nearly gave us the winning try, but the final whistle came with a well-deserved draw. Final Score South 5 LFE 5.
Game 2
The second game saw some changes for South and we never really got going. LFE’s physicality along with some better passing play from their backs saw them go over for four tries in the first half and another solo effort from Will Basey-Broom was our only repost. Half Time South 5 LFE 20.
More changes as Nick rotated his squad in the second half saw much of the same with LFE going over for another three tries. The tackles never stopped flying in and the team played valiantly to the end. Well done again guys, you showed in the first game how much progress is being made and keep up the good work.
