On Saturday 27th September 2014 a depleted South Leicester travelled to Kettering to play Round 1 of the National Colts Cup. The two sides last met many years ago as Minis and never met as Juniors. Kettering put South under pressure right from the start and despite some South defence they could not prevent a Kettering penalty and then a try. South never let their heads drop and soon afterwards a strong forward rolling maul saw Jake Bryan drive over and score. South started to turn up the pressure but saw three try scoring opportunities go begging through unforced errors. Kettering were always a threat and scored a well deserved second try. Half time score was Kettering 13 South 5.
The second half saw South Leicester pick up the pace and a brilliant run from Matt Cooke split the Kettering backline and he was in for a converted try, this was quickly followed up with a forward pick and go move that saw another try added by Ciaran Holland. The conversion missed but South carried on dominating the scrums. Kettering never gave up and were rewarded with a controversial try, although well scored actually came from a clear offence of taking a player out off the ball which went un punished. South unperturbed used their forward power to present the ball to Kaylin Williams 12 meters out and at pace who barged his way through to touch down despite having four Kettering players hanging onto him.
To their credit Kettering never gave up and forced a try in the corner in the last minute, but were unable to convert with the last kick of the game and the final result was Kettering 23 South Leicester 24.
