Lions needed a late try to pip South Leicester 29-26 in another close encounter at the weekend. Lions had sneaked an 19-18 victory at South at the start of the season so another hard-fought match was anticipated.
A Jon Boden penalty opened the scoring for the hosts before debutant winger Benjamin Marfo scored a try for Lions. Boden kicked the conversion.
South hit back with three Rickie Aley penalties to make it 10-9 before the visitors went ahead through a try from Tom Cheney. Aley converted to give his side a 16-10 lead at half-time.
Lions upped their pace at the start of the second half and hooker Harry Mahoney powered through for a try, converted by Boden.
Again South showed their class as winger Myles Bean went over for a try, again converted by Aley, to give them a 23-17 lead.
Aley added his fourth penalty to open a nine-point gap over Lions, but the home side fought back when scrum-half Kris McFedries darted through for a try to reduce the deficit to 26-22.
