Great day Up North !!!

Match report Sandal v South 9/4/16

It was a lovely sunny day for our first ever trip up the M1 to play Sandal in Wakefield West Yorkshire. After making excellent time on the motorway we arrived at the club, which is a credit to Sandal, an excellent facility.

The lads warmed up and at midday kicked off against a big Sandal side.

South started the strongest with fly half Callum making a stunning break down the centre and totally outpacing the defence to score a cracker under the posts ! He popped over the kick 0-7 to South.

From the restart South won good ball from the scrum, fed to like who crashed through and passed to Sam he showed fierce speed to score another between the sticks ! Jude knocked the ball over the cross bar
0-14 to South.

Sandal rallied very well though and started to pile pressure on our wings and some messy play caught us out and Sandal clawed a try back driving it over the line. Kick missed

5-14 to South

A series a scrums followed with the pack and Jono making a powerful run down the right wing but we were really having to work hard against the strong sandal lads. Morgan stole some lovely ball but Sandals confidence was growing and they again attached down the middle leading to another try. Success with the boot meant the score was

12-14 to South.

Some indiscipline led to a Sandal penalty at the restart, this led to a sandal line out but messy ball was secured by Reece who made s great break with joe storming up in support. The ball went to Cam who put huge pressure on the defence storming forwards and thumping over the line for a cracking forwards try.

Jude was good with the kick.

12-21 to South !!

HALF TIME

The second half started but was messy from the off with both sides losing ball. Callum who was having a stormer in attack and defence made another cutting run at sandal. The south poured forward and cam, joe and George making in roads into their half. Play stopped for a sandal scrum and Ollie pounced on some loose ball really well and done great counter rucking from James, Josh and Mitch secured good ball for Reece. The ball was fed to Callum who kicked a lovely ball into space. The Sandal full back gathered well but didn't account for mitch steaming forwards who made a great scrag tackle to bring him down. Sandal rallied again and piles on pressure in the bottom right corner from a series of ref decisions that led play there. Sandal scored and bought the score to a nail biting -

17-21 to South

It was clear to the South supporters though that we had the bit between our teeth and we're going for it. Callum again went on another sizzling run and cut their defence open, sprinting in a well earned try. Con missed

17-26 to South.

We were t done though and some great diving play from Ollie from the restart took play back into their half and set it beautifully for Morgan to take the ball on at speed and give the hand off of the season, planting the poor sandal tackler firmly on the turf ! He sprinted in scoring under the posts and fittingly Callum scored the extra two points making the final score

17-33 to South !

Lads you were all absolutely fantastic. You didn't panic under pressure and you played as a team, fabulous display. Following the match you were a credit to the club, even acting as the search party for froggys missing in action wallet ! (Tour fine !) and the smiles and laughter we all witnessed just made the day all the better ! Proud of everyone one of you !!!
