Hard slog against Harborough !

South Leicester RFC v Market Harborough RFC 29/11/15

Gutsy display from South !

It was a horrible mucky day for our home match against a strong well drilled Market Harborough side. Stricken by injuries and sickness it was going to prove a real test for the squad of 16 against MHRFC.

Harborough had the brightest start on a dull day, scoring the first try out wide, seemingly ghosting through our tackling 0-5, this stirred South into action and Cam made drove straight through the next maul showing great strength to steal a ball from the grasp of the attacking Harborough forwards.

Harborough though are a tough outfit and regained possession and started to attack outwide, moving the ball swiftly to the wing, who was stopped by a brave tackle from Will summers.

Harborough piled on the pressure though and managed another try - 0-10.

South continued to plug away and were clearly the stronger side in the scrum, easily dominating the Harborough pack in the set piece. Luke and Cam proving formidable opponents against the Harborough front row.

South forced play towards the Harborough line and Morgan, who was leading by example forced his way over for a great try ! Callum scored the conversion.

7-10 to MHRFC

Harborough showed what a good team they are though by responding with another well worked try and some classy running.

7-15 to MHRFC

The South forwards were really putting themselves about and Luke made a storming run at the Harborough defence. Harborough were launching lots of attacks at our defence and some valiant tackles were coming in from Callum and Jude.

Captain Morgan was smashing his way at the defence and the forwards were following his example in conditions that meant the game was always going to fought mainly up front.

Harborough regained possession and scored a try by running down the middle of the paddock and under sticks. Our tackling seemed to melt unfortunately. They kicked the goal

7-22 to MHRFC at half time.

The second half started with South playing with the wind. Cam took possession and made a storming run through the MHRFC pack, taking several to stop him. Harborough were tough to crack though and soon moved the ball wide again and from good hands scored another try outwide.

7-27 to MHRFC

Callum made a beautiful kick from the restart causing an error in the MHRFC back line forcing a scrum to south, Harborough managed to steal the ball back and attacked fiercely down the left wing, only being stopped by a last grasp tackle from Charlie. Harborough continued to attack and again out tackling let us down and we conceded a try in the left corner. Conversion missed.

7-32 to MHRFC

Following a coupe of injuries to South to Luke and George (Hope your feeling better soon !) ex south player Will Adams came on for us in a guest appearance, thank you Will !

The play continued to flow back and forwards with some good work coming in form both sides, but Harborough again proved their strength and scored another try but missed the kick. The final score was 7-37 to MHRFC

Lads take heart from an improved performance on last week against one of the strongest squads and teams in the county. You all showed some real spirit and in the scrum were clearly the better team. You never gave up and showed some real spirit. We still need to work hard on our tackling and organisation at the kick offs and this is what we can put right in training. We have two games left before Christmas and let's get two wins on the board !!

Man of the match today was Cameron Goode - well done, very well deserved, a strong and dominating performance today !
