Rampant South too strong for Paviors

Match report Sunday 8/11/15

South Leicester RFC v Paviors RFC

Well what a change a week brings with the weather, it was decidedly more wintery for this weeks home match against Nottingham based club, Paviors RFC.

It started with a very respective and dignified two minutes silence in order to pay our respects to all the men and women who gave so much, to allow us the freedoms we enjoy today, reflected in the opportunity to play and enjoy a game of rugby on a Sunday morning with all our families. Thank you.

South started strongly driving hard down the right wing, only being stopped with a knock on, leading to a Paviors scrum. The first scrum proved to be fairly equal and Paviors cleared their lines for the first line out. The throw wasn't straight and South took the scrum just on the half way. Clean ball was won, Jack took it on a charge down the middle, recycling to feed Sam who was only stopped on the right wing by a great Paviors tackle.

Play spun back across to the left wing and South forced a penalty. Great work from Reece followed who darted over like Matt Dawson for a cheeky try !

5-0 South. Conversion missed.

South attacked from the re-start and were clearly up for the game, George at No8 made a storming run only to forced into touch by the Paviors fly half. We knocked on at the line out giving Paviors a scrum but won the ball at the next breakdown, Jack darted through the middle, off loading to Callum, who still had plenty to do but made a strong run down the middle from the Paviors ten yard line to score under the posts ! Dan Carter eat your heart out !! Alex kicked a sweet conversion making the score -

12-0 South

South started the restart strongly and drove play towards the Paviors line again, forcing a penalty near their 22". Morgan tapped and drove popping to Cameron from ten yards out, there was no chance the defence were stopping the big fella from there and Cam powered over ! Jude had bought his kicking boots with him and kicked a beaut right through the middle of the uprights.

19-0 South.

Paviors were not going to just roll over though and forced play back into our half and we made a series of errors and gave them successive penalties, which saw them outstrip our defence in the bottom corner and pop over for a well taken try.

19-5 to South, conversion missed.

South responded well though and took play into the Paviors 22" again. Ollie driving well with the ball, Zach and Alex jinking their way through the defence, forcing Paviors to defend desperately, Flynn touching down just short of the line, but it was a great effort ! Paviors rescued their position and cleared the ball back down the pitch. More loose play followed with handling errors and untidy rucking from both sides. Paviors gave away a penalty and Morgan took the ball straight at the defence and caught them napping, powering away and feeding Callum who sprinted clear and was well clear of the covering Paviors players to score under the posts !

Callum converted his own try !

26-5 to South at half time.

A couple of changes were made at half time and Luke came on and made an instant impression, charging like a tank down the left wing, taking several desperate tacklers with him. He took a slight injury and had to leave play for a few minutes.

Again a penalty was awarded, too many to be honest against both sides, this time to South which was resulted in some lovely back play. Marcus did well to pass to Jack, who combined beautifully with James on the left wing, Jack drawing the defender then feeding James who took a fantastic Nehe Milner Skudder type angle to cut straight back across toward the Paviors post, showing some good gas to score !

Jude nailed the kick between the sticks making the score -

33-5 to South

It was here South lost abit of concentration and some good play from Paviors saw them saw them score a well taken try through our defence whose tackling seemed to melt away ! The kicked the conversion -

33-12 to South

This shocked South back into action and they put together some lovely play down the middle, shipping the ball out to James on the left wing, who made a lovely run to the bottom corner crashing over for his well earned second try !!

The conversion was missed making the score -

38-12 to South.

A series of scrums for both sides followed as players tired and some silly handling errors were creeping in, South were still in control however and Charlie, Richie McCaw, Jackson made a storming charge, the ball was recycled from the ruck twice and Paviors gave away a penalty. Morgan alert as always took a cheeky tap and popped over !

Last score of the game - final score 43-12 to South !!

Lads what a great game today, Paviors were a well drilled side and their fly half was an exceptional player who you managed to contain very well. Our fitness paid off as we were stronger side, however we must cut out the penalties and improve our passing. We have Old Laurentians away, next week and will give the squad game time to help everyone improve and enjoy playing !

Thank you to the players who helped Paviors, your contribution in situations like this typifies the rugby spirit and ensured the game was competitive and keenly fought ! Thank you. We are proud of you all !!!

Dean Toon kindly sponsored today's man of the match - thank you Dean.

Dean selected James King in only his second game for the u14s. He scored two well taken tries and took some big hits, well played James, many more tries to come I'm sure !
