Match report - Lutterworth v South Leicester

Fantastic display from the South boys !

The sun was out and conditions were excellent for Souths fixture against a Lutterworth side that beat us last season. The lad started strongly attacking the Lutterworth line and some excellent rucking from the pack resulted in Reece making a classic scrum halves break to the line to score the first try !

0-5 to South - Conversion just missed.

The forwards started to really step up the gears early on and were putting lots of pressure on the Lutterworth pack taking a scrum against the head and driving them backwards. Good ball was fed from the scrum and ball was going down the back line. The ball reached Alex on the wing who made some good yards before delivering a lovely little pop to Jack who stormed over in the bottom left corner for the second try !

0-10 South - conversion missed but good effort from Callum for wide out.

Lutterworth started strongly from the restart attacking out 22' - South soaked up the pressure from a scrum and lineout with some solid throw ins from Ollie and good work from Flynn and Joe in the line South made good ground back towards the Lutterworth half. The pack were rucking well which led to Morgan taking a loose ball and going on a mazy run scoring a great try under the posts ! Alex popped over a neat conversion

0-17 to South !

Lutterworth were still plugging away and from the restart forced a lineout which then led to a South scrum where they gave away a penalty. With Lutterworth sensing a score was coming they drove towards to line only for Morgan to pull off a big tackle and then the forwards recycled the ball to allow out back who were clicking beautifully to clear the lines and take it back towards the half way.

The first half finished : 0-17 to South

The second started in the same vein by Lutterworth who attacked down the left wing only to be stopped again by some valiant tackling. Sam started a huge run down the right wing to really test their defence and Lutterworth managed to force a lineout. The forwards especially Joe who was rampaging through the Lutterworth defence and securing some great ball at the breakdown were really hammering the Lutterworth pack. They won a clean ball from a ruck, the ball went to jack who made good ground before popping a lovely off load to Jono on the wing who with some work still to do made an excellent run to score on the right wing !

0-22 to South - conversion missed.

The restart came and again the forwards dominated the breakdown, Cam driving forward, George , Max and Mitch supporting feeding a lovely ball to the backs, Jack rode two tackles off loading to Callum, who made a dazzling run through the middle to score a lovely try under the posts !

He slotted the conversion making the score : 0-29 to South

Lutterworth didn't give up though and put pressure and attacked our 22' managing get to force over for try in the bottom left corner. A great conversion followed making the score -

7-29 to South

South restarted, but had a quick reshuffle following an injury to Reece, Mitch moved over the scrum half and attacked their backrow from the scrum. Lutterworth were far from done though and attacked from a loose ball with there big fly half attacking down the middle and a try saving tackle end from jack just preventing a try. An injury to Lutterworth player stopped play and it was good to see him back on his feet with only a bump to his cheek. Then came some amazing defence from South who only succumbed to a Lutterworth try after making some awesome tackles.
Lutterworth popped the kick over making the score : 14-29 to South

South responded brilliantly from the kick, again Joe really causing Lutterworth problems, some great linking work from the backs from the quick ball at the breakdown, fed Jack who stormed over for his second, running in under the posts, Callum slotted the kick, making the score

14-36 to South

It continued from the restart with a wonderful finish with Sam being fed the loose ball and making a blistering run along the left wing from his own 22' to score a fabulous try. Conversion missed.

Final score - 14-41 to South.

Lads you were exceptional today, the new players, ronnie and Marcus are growing in confidence every week, players learning new positions like Myles were shining and making great ground. Forwards you played with real fire and heart today and backs you were brilliant !
