South just lose out to Barkers !

This has been lifted for the Barkers Butts RFC u14s page - It is their coaching teams report in absence of our own report.

Game Barkers Butts V South Leicester result 17-10 Try scorers, Jack Aston (1)Ben Barwick (2), Conversions Jack Aston (1)

As usual Barkers started off poorly with missed tackles allowing the backs from south Leicester to capitalize and score a try within minutes of the whistle blowing. The barker’s forwards display in the scrummaging was a pleasure to watch. Especially Michael McDonnell whom held his own against strong competition. He and the forwards dominated the scrums much to the pleasure of the coaches. The fly half and scrum half put our number ten (Ewan Lawson) under great pressure time after time which prevented the usual flow of the game for Barker’s. The forwards from south Leicester made their way up the park and scored again before half time.

At half time the score was 0-10

Second half saw some changes for Barkers as the forwards needed this as so was the intensity of the game. After a little chat amongst the coaches and players at half time the message got across. South Leicester had to opt for passive scrums has they had their own injury issues to deal with.

Harry Ward had a great run down the wing using his trade mark side step, stepped two players only to be caught and tackled but took a knock to his leg which saw him replaced with Bradley. By now our we had managed to get the ball out wide to Owen Painter whom had butter fingers three or four times of which we won’t mention. In the end the forwards dominated especially Toby Clews for being very disruptive which allowed the forwards to set the platform and allowed Ben Barwick to score from a meter out.The backs eventually got the ball which allowed Jack Aston to skillfully by pass his opposite number and score. The final try saw the forwards keep the ball phase after phase up the field which again enabled Ben Barwick to score from half a meter out!Up stepped Jack Aston and calmly converted.

All credit to south Leicester for coming over and giving us a great game of rugby and their parents were all well behaved. It was noted that the referee (Simon Begg sporting a new hair cut) calmly explained each decision to both sides in a well-controlled game.

Man of match. Ben Barwick for two tries and a great ankle tap stopping there big forward runner. Along with a very detailed long speech after talking us through his tries.

Muppets of the day: The entire first half team for missed tackles! Something we have been working on during training.
