To their credit both sides started the game by trying to play open rugby with DK making an encouraging start and after three minutes were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately Keiran Pinches was wide with his attempt at goal.
After ten minutes, Dudley were penalised at a ruck and South’s fly half Ricky Aley made no mistake with his attempt. There then followed ten minutes of play between the two twenty-two metre lines.
On twenty minutes following a scuffle the home side’s Jethro Rawling and DK’s Jon Tideswell were both yellow carded. With equal amounts of possession the deadlock was finally broken on twenty-seven minutes when the home side created a gap in the centre following an attacking scrum and Will Cave crossed under the posts. Ricky Aley added the extra points.
On thirty minutes following a quick lineout and a resulting ruck, the home side increased their lead when DK were penalised for being off side. Ricky Aley once again made no mistake with the kick.
To their credit DK attacked from the restart and on the stroke of half time were awarded a penalty for their efforts. This time Kieran Pinches successfully landed the points. The travelling DK supporters were hopeful that the big heavy South Leicester forwards would tire during the second half but regretfully this did not happen.
To compound the situation DK started to make too many mistakes and were exposed on the right flank by poor positional play in defense. The home side took total advantage of the situation and ran in a further three tries by left wing Conner Smith, fullback Harry Owens and second row Stuart Bale. All three were converted by Ricky Aley.
This capped a magnificent kicking performance by Aley not only for goal but out of his hands as well. DK replied with a consolation penalty by Kieran Pinches.
The second half proved to be a scrappy affair with a further three yellow cards being produced. Two for Dudley namely Matt Squires and Sam Pedley and Andy Gates for South Leicester.
