A comprehensive 10-64 10 try victory in Lincolnshire. The three quarters run riot in the sun - the forwards weren't bad either!

21-0 up after 8 minutes, 33-3 up at half time, 64-10 at full time.
Phew!

The Greens were the architects of their own downfall when they were hammered at Heslam by rampant South Leicester.

Following the last minute drama of their win over Longton the previous week and South Leicester having been beaten by Longton, it was not unreasonable to assume that the result would be close.

As the two teams took to the pitch it was clear that the Leicestershire boys were full of purpose and totally focussed whilst the home players seemed very quiet and a neutral would quite easily have mistaken which was the home team.

There was only two minutes on the clock when South struck for the first try and then proceeded to score twice more for a 21points to nil lead after only 9 minutes of play. Their powerful running and close support work was outstanding. The only way to stop them was to make your first up tackle and in this respect Scunthorpe was poor.

There was some improvement and the deficit was reduced after 27 minutes through a Chris Neal penalty, only for the visitors to re-impose themselves in the 35 minute with a try from a maul close in. They closed out the first half with another converted try to go into half-time with a 33 points to 3 advantage.

The second period was only 7 minutes old when South struck again through scrum-half Joe Glover who was having an excellent match and was eventually to contribute 19 points to his team’s total. The Greens finally sustained an attack from deep and managed to retain the ball which was taken on by Rewiti Viamoso and Chris Neal and touched down by Tom Foster. Neal added the conversion for a 40 points to 10 scoreline.

That unfortunately was the highpoint of the match for Scunthorpe as the visitors piled on the agony abetted by the home boys with a litany of errors for a final score-line of 64 points to 10. This represents the worst defeat at Heslam Park for many years and the only consolation for the Coach and the players is that the only way now is up.

The next match is against league newcomers Sandbach in Cheshire who seem strong on their home ground so The Greens will have to show character to do themselves justice.
