A tough game against tough opposition, a Sheffield team that would not give up and kept the result in doubt until the last few minutes

Incessant rain contributed to an error strewn game that South came through against a Sheffield team that would not give up and kept the result in doubt until the last few minutes. The green and whites scrum proved to be the decisive factor gaining a penalty try and forcing several penalties.

South's 12th minute penalty try after several unsuccessful attempts by the visitors to withstand the pressure gave the ref no choice. Rickie Aley converting 7-0. It was Sheffield Tigers began to tighten up as they started to look sharp and after 21 mins were rewarded with a Bowyer penalty 7-3. The visitors began to go through the phases and after 27 mins South were caught offside allowing Bowyer to slot over 7-6.The score remained the same until HT with neither teams looking like adding to their score.

The second half saw Aley add a 44th min penalty after Harry Priestner and Will Cave combined to put Sheffield Tigers on the backfoot 10-3.Aley was again involved in 51st min putting his cross kick which was gathered at the second attempt he slipped out of a tackle and crossed for an unconverted try 15-6.A further Aley penalty increased the lead to 18-6.

Sheffield Tigers urged on by their raucous supporters hit back with a 66 mins try from Broadley converted by Bowyer 18-13..The home teams forwards were now forcing the visitors to defend and after several minutes of battering against the Sheffield line Tom Warren muscled his way over for a 74th min try converted by Aley to give them a 25-13 win which following on from two successful weeks on the road completed a nice little run.

Afterwards the clubhouse was still full after the VP lunch and Sheffield's supporters were still in a noisy and jovial mood creating a good atmosphere. We look forward to hosting Sheffield Tigers again next year
