Luctonians 29 South Leicester 31
A long and winding road past hop farms took us to a Luctonians ground that had a newly built stand, hills on two sides and a cricket pavilion where the side screens sat waiting for summer. Not only did we enjoy the view but we witnessed the great points robbery as South's late comeback was sealed with the winning conversion in the last minute.
The game started with flurry of penalties, Luctonians settled down the quicker and within 20 minutes had scored 2 tries and a conversion giving them 12-0 lead. It was starting to look ominous for South until the pack used their dominance to collect a penalty try following a series of scrums on the home team's line. Rickie Aley's conversion making it 13-7. South were beginning to put their game together, Aley found Sam Smith he worked the ball along the line and Ryan Hough crossed, Aley adding.14-12 in front. A Lucs pre HT penalty to the home side sent them in at 15-14
Another slow start by South saw the home team with a converted try to increase their score to 22-14. Hard work by the South scrum earned them an Aley penalty 22-17.
Lucs were looking the most likely team to win, this seemed to be confirmed with a converted try 29-17 and the home side appeared to be in control. South had other idea's and started to unsettle Lucs, late tries from Calum Gunn and Chris Gibbs, Aley adding to both, the last being in the final minute, to gave an unexpected bonus point win. A Lucs member said if South played like that for eighty minutes they would be a top two side, now that would be worth paying to see
