With the fog closing in at Heslam Park, it was always going to be a challenge against last seasons champions, a team South new well from their days in National 3. South played up a slight incline in the first half and turned around at half time 8-3 up after a try by Adam Shaw on the back of the rolling maul by the forwards and a penalty kick from Rickie Aley
With ever decreasing visibility, south started the second half much brighter and immediately scored from strong running by Nick Cairns, converted by Aley, 3-15. A good response by Scunthorpe's running backs with a converted try of their own, 10-15, but this was as close as it got for the home side. Two further penalties from Aley moved south up to 10-21, before Blane Howe ran at pace to cross the whitwash, converted by Aley 10-28. The last play of the game with the light fading was a driving scrummage 5m out, resulting in a penalty try, Scunthorpe adjust to have collapsed the scrum, converted by Aley. Final Score 10-35
