South Leicester 12 Macclesfield 32

No complaints South were second best to an experienced and professional Macclesfield team that although not completely dominating had to much nous for the home side with the visitors adding to their championship credentials with an efficient display of mauling and well rehearsed technique.
Macclesfield's first try was an example of what was to come in the shape of a catch and drive that resulted in a unconverted try. Within 2 minutes they added a further try after the bounce of the ball favoured their number 8 who exchanged passed before crossing for a converted try.
South were not without a threat though and Will Ward's forwards showed that they could also be an efficient forward unit at the line out with a maul that travelled 25 metres to the Macclesfield line which was stopped illegally resulting in two yellows cards in quick succession. South opted for a scrum on the visitors line and the depleted pack went backwards allowing Chris Gibbs to pick up and cross the line , Will Sutton converted.
South were now getting a foothold in the game but a silly penalty gave the visitors a chance to extend their lead
The home side continued to keep the opposition in their 22 and were hurried into a clearance which Wes Cope charged down and following up touched down for an unconverted try,
HT 12-15
Macclesfield were now back to full strength and quickly gained a penalty in front of South's posts duly slotted over.
South kept working and made the hard yards through the Bale brothers and Will Ward but could not get the final offloads away which proved costly. A turnover led to a penalty with which the visitors found touch and from the resulting line out they mauled their way over the line for an unconverted try.
Almost an exact replica of the previous driving maul created another try which gave Macclesfield their bonus point and
South's streetwise opponents then saw out time to keep their place at the top of the league.
