South Leicester 29 Sedgley Park 51

South is still finding their feet in the higher league and despite a battling performance they succumbed to a very good Sedgley Park side but South still got a 4 try bonus point.

Slow start put the home team on back foot as within minutes they conceded two quality tries from Matthews and M Riley and it was always going to be difficult to claw it back against an experienced National league 2 team.
Conversions and a penalty from Collins put the visitor 0-17 up before the 20 minute mark.
South hit back and Jacob Heath scored after a bullocking run by Chris Bale and a chip through from Rickie Aley
The game was now ebbing and flowing and a try by Matthews and a Collins penalty gave the visitors a 10-25 HT lead.
The home side started the second half with another astute kick from Aley which was taken by Will Evans for his try converted by Aley as South crept closer. Sedgley had something to say as well and responded with two tries from M Riley and Waywell
Calum Gunn put South within 10 points with two tries with one converted but 78 and 80 minute tries from Black and Lamprey and one conversions wrapped the game up for the visitors
South had their moments but found it difficult to put together many meaningful moves due to a high penalty count, a determined opposition who competed in every phase and it proved too much for them
Rickie Aley’s game management did create some panic in Sedgley’s ranks and with more quality ball the backs will have better days
The forwards worked hard and had some success at the scrums with tight head David Peck giving his opposite number a game to remember as well as scoring a try. When they got the chance the line out catch and drive. as last season, worked well.

South will not meet too many teams of Sedgleys quality and it was an entertaining game to watch.
More spectator support would help so please come along and watch a good standard of rugby
