Despite six established first team players absent through injury or unavailablility South just about did enough to beat an upbeat Paviors side at Burnstump Hill.
The wet and blustery conditions weren't ideal, but South went on to take the game 21pts to 20.
South rushed into a 14-0 lead within the opening quarter through a trademark Nick Griffin length of the field interception try and a shorter Gaz Jones burst over the line.
Ollie Mills added both the extras.
However, by the hour mark Paviors had a established a 14-15 lead as South were sleeping finding it increasingly difficult to hang onto possession and failing to execute a number of try scoring opportunities.
Chris Bale redressed the balance by scoring a dynamic bull dozing try from broken play, again converted by Mills.
Paviors wouldn't lie down and scored a breakaway try at the death with the conversion to win the game.
Fortunately for South the kick failed.
Although a win is a win a number of key aspects ie ball retention(conditions not withstanding), supporting the ball carrier and effective communication have to be addressed before next weeks opening Midlands 1 league encounter away at Longton
